Entity

An entity’s sheet is everything the book knows about one thing. A character, a place, an object, a faction, a piece of lore or an event, with the fields its kind asks for, the facts stated about it, the relations it stands in and the scenes that name it. The sheet opens as its own screen from the Asterism, and as the main region of the Reference panel’s full view, where it is edited in place. Back on the screen returns to wherever it was opened from: the Asterism, the workspace, or Checks on the Panels screen.

Two entities sharing a name are told apart. Wherever one is listed or picked, in the sheet, the relation picker, a relation line or a delete confirmation, the name carries its kind and its place among the others by creation order: Mira (character 1 of 2). A place’s own kind field reads Type, apart from the entity’s Kind.

The fields are the ones the kind asks for. A character is asked for appearance, birthdate and goals; a place for its type and a description; an object for a description and its significance; a faction for goals and secrets; lore for a summary and its scope; an event for a summary and when it happens. A term the kind asks for and the sheet has not answered is offered empty. Sections are free text under headings of your own, for what does not fit one line. A field is saved when it loses focus, and the sheet says Saved.

Aliases are the other names the prose uses. Every alias is matched in the prose along with the name, which is how a mention is counted and how a check knows that two spellings are one person. Tags are your own words for grouping, and the entity browser filters by them along with the name and the kind.

A fact holds over a window of chapters. Add fact takes the sentence, the slot it fills where its kind keeps slots, and the chapters it holds between. A slot holds one value at a time, so stating a new one closes the one before it at that chapter, which is what the sheet shows as the window. Edit restates a fact whole and delete moves it to the trash. Knowledge on a fact records who else knows it, with the stance and the chapter they learned it in.

Relations have two ends and a direction. Add relation names the other entity, what this one is to it and what it is in return, and the chapter the tie was established. A relation read from either end shows the same tie. Editing one restates it whole, so a member left blank is cleared, and deleting it moves it to the trash.

Mentions are where the prose names it. Each row is a scene, with how many times the name is read in it and the sentence it was last read in. Opening a mention takes you to that sentence in the editor, or to the scene itself where the prose has moved since.

AI visibility says how much a lane is given. Always is the default, When mentioned hands the sheet over only for a scene whose prose names it, and Never keeps it out of every bundle. It is set per entity and belongs to the book.

The portrait is stored in the book. Give a portrait takes a picture off your own computer and keeps it in the book file, so the book carries it wherever it goes. Where no portrait is given, the entity is drawn with its own mark.

Deleting moves to the Asterism trash. Delete entity takes the entity with its facts and relations, and the trash under the sheet lists what was moved aside with Restore beside each one. Restoring puts the entity back with everything that went with it.

New entity adds one by hand. The browser’s New entity asks for the name and the kind, and the sheet opens on it. Everything a detector, an import or an AI lane would add instead arrives as a proposal, which the Proposals entry covers.

Try: add a fact to a character with a window of two chapters, then open Story evolution and move the slider to the chapter the fact closes at. The sheet’s value changes with it.
