Story evolution
Story evolution reads the book one chapter at a time. The slider along the top walks the chapters in order, and the two columns under it, State and Change from the chapter before, answer what is true at the chapter and what it changed. It is opened from the Asterism and from an entity’s sheet, and Back to Asterism returns to the graph parked at the chapter shown.
The state column counts what stands here. One count per kind of entity the prose has named by this chapter, then the relations open at it and the plot threads planted and not yet paid off. Under the counts, First appearing here lists the entities the prose names for the first time at this chapter, and Facts stated here lists the facts that open at it, each with the entity it is about.
The change column says what this chapter changed. Added entities is what arrived, Ended relations is the ties that close here, and Changed facts is a fact that takes the place a fact closed here held, which is how a value that was replaced rather than simply stated is read.
One entity can be read alone. Opening the screen from a sheet filters both columns to that entity, and the chip at the top says whose reading it is. Clear filter reads the whole book again.
An entity with no first chapter has not arrived. An entity the prose never names is counted nowhere on the slider, however complete its sheet. The checks read the same thing as never mentioned, and it is answered in the prose rather than here.
The summary is optional and needs a lane. Generate asks the AI lane for a paragraph about the chapter shown. In mechanical mode the control is off and the screen says why, because that mode runs no lane at all.
The graph the slider is shared with is in the Asterism entry, and what a fact’s window means is in the Entity entry.
Try: put the slider at the last chapter, then walk it back one chapter at a time and watch the relation count fall as ties close.
