Challenges
A challenge is a target and not a league. Everybody in one is measured against the number the challenge names and against nothing else. There is no placing, no score and no comparison of one member with another, which is why the screen shows a bar per challenge and never a table of people.
The head of the screen is today. The words of today against the daily target, the streak, and one line saying what is left or that the target is met. The target comes from the book’s own settings; the words are the ones you wrote, or all words added when Settings, Editor, Words today counts says so.
Running challenges are cards. The goal, who it is shared with, the guild where there is one, the bar, the progress against the target, the days left and the people taking part. Finished ones fall to a list below, marked completed or missed, with the badge a completed one earned.
A challenge has one of three scopes. Personal is yours; friends is also visible to the people you are friends with; guild needs membership of that guild, and one started from a guild page is fixed to it. Joining or leaving a shared challenge needs an account, so the control stands disabled with the reason on a guest.
Create takes a goal, an amount, a period and who it is shared with. Words, chapters or sittings, over a week or a month. The name is written from the amount and the goal, and the challenge opens with you in it.
Progress only rises. A figure is reported in the challenge’s own units; the same figure again changes nothing and a lower one is refused. Reaching the target finishes that membership once and unlocks its badge once. After the end day nothing joins and nothing counts, and a membership that never reached its target is marked missed.
Leaving hands the challenge on. The owner who leaves passes it to whoever joined earliest, and a challenge with nobody left in it goes.
Try: join a challenge you are not in, then leave it again. The control changes both times without the page reloading, and the card keeps its place in the band.
