Notifications

Notifications are not a screen. The bell in the bar opens the inbox: a popover under the bell on the desktop and the tablet, a drawer from the right on the phone. Escape and a press outside close it.

The inbox is newest first, a page at a time, and the bell carries what stands unread.

Seven kinds of line arrive here: invitations, forks, kudos, tournaments, moderation decisions, guild lines and friends. Each carries the username of whoever caused it as it stood when the line was written, so somebody renaming later does not change what you were told.

Opening a line marks it read and takes you where it points: the work a fork or kudos is about, the tournament, the guild, the shelf for an invitation, and your account for a moderation decision. A line pointing into a book carries a location link instead, which opens the passage in the editor.

Mark all read clears the badge and leaves every line in place.

The inbox is behind your session and nothing else. A suspended account still reads it, because a moderation decision arrives as a notification and the decision is how you learn what was decided and how to appeal it.

A notification is yours alone. Nothing here walks from a line back to another account, and nobody is told what you have read.

Try: open the bell, press a kudos line, and watch the dot beside it go out while the badge falls by one. Mark all read empties the badge without taking a line off the list.
