Publish
Publish is a wizard of seven steps over the open book. Details, Rating, Tags, Permissions, Disclosure, Asterism and Review. Every step is reachable from the rail at any time, so nothing is answered twice.
Details. The title the work is published under and the summary readers meet it by. The title starts as the book’s own and can be changed here without changing the book.
Rating and warnings. General, teen or mature, and the content warnings the work carries. Explicit is not one of the three and is refused with a reason rather than ignored.
Tags. Written as one line, separated by commas. They are what the search matches beside the title and the summary, and what a reader follows a tag by.
Permissions is what a reader may do with the work. Four words. No forks refuses every fork. Ask first takes forks the writer grants one at a time. Open takes forks with attribution. Same terms onward takes forks with attribution and the same permission on every fork of a fork. The attribution and the licence that stand when a fork is taken are snapshotted onto the fork, so a later change cannot reach back into a fork somebody already took.
Disclosure is how much of the record a reader may read. None discloses nothing. Statistics discloses the shares the server found and the number of sittings. Skeleton and full disclose the record itself, read to different depths. The preview beside the choice says what a reader will see.
Asterism sharing and reader suggestions. The Asterism is shared as nothing, as the graph, or as the graph and the sheets, always as of the reader’s own position. Suggestions let a reader put a fact, a relation or a correction to you, which arrives in your proposal queue with the reader named.
Review lists every answer and offers Preview as reader. The preview opens the reader on your own book with the choices the wizard stands at, so what a reader is offered is read before anybody else is offered it. Nothing about the preview reaches the server. Back on the preview returns to where it was opened from, Publish in Book settings included; Close returns to the main view.
Publish sends three things and reads one back. The work and its chapters go to the server as text. The book copy and the record go straight to object storage over addresses signed for exactly the length each one declared; no book byte passes the API. The server then reads the record back once, verifies it, and answers what it found: the verification level, the rows it read and the sittings it counted. That answer is the result the wizard ends on, and the verification on it is the server’s finding rather than anything you said.
Publishing needs an account and, at first, an invitation. A guest is shown the way to an account; an account with no invitation is told that publishing is behind one until it opens.
Try: walk to Review, press Preview as reader, and read the verification card there. It shows the level you chose, not a level the server found, because nothing has been sent yet.
