Community

Community is the front page of everything other people have published. Nothing on it is ranked by engagement. Every band is either chronological or chosen by a person, and the screen says which of the two each band is under its name.

The bands, in order. Events carries the tournaments and the shared challenges that are running. Staff picks carries works the editors chose with the line they wrote for each. Newest carries published works newest first. Open for forks carries the works whose writers allow a fork. Recent lineages pairs a work with the works forked from it. Guild spotlights carries guilds put forward. Reading lists carries the lists you keep and the public lists others made. Tags to follow carries every tag with the works and the followers it holds.

The chips under the head carry you to a band. They mark the band the reading line stands in as the screen scrolls, and the last chip marks once the screen is at its end.

See all opens the full list of a band. Newest is the band that pages: Load more asks the server for the page after the one shown and stops where the server sends no cursor with it. Nothing counts a page by its number; the cursor is the server’s own and the client carries it without reading it.

Search and the filters are include-only. The search field matches the title, the summary and the tags, each word from its start, and scores nothing. The tag chips and the rating chips narrow what Newest shows. Following cuts Newest to the tags you follow and is disabled until you follow one.

Every work row offers the same six things. Read opens it in the reader. Kudos, Save to a reading list and Fork sit in the overflow menu beside the row, each of them gated by the tier: a guest sees the lock and its reason on hover or focus, a free account sees kudos and lists open. Share link copies the address of the work. Report opens the report form.

Fork reads the permission the writer set. A work that takes no forks has the action disabled. A work that takes forks by asking offers Ask to fork, which files the request and says so; the request is held on this device until the flow that carries it to the writer is built. A work that is open or that asks the same terms onward grants the fork and signs a download of the book copy.

Create list is in the reading lists band. A list takes a name, a description and a visibility. Any account keeps a private list; publishing one as public is sold, and the visibility control shows the lock and its reason to a free account.

Try: press See all on Newest, then Load more until the button is gone. The count in the section head is the number of works the server has sent, and the button disappears the moment a page arrives with no cursor after it.
