History

The History panel is the book’s record, and nothing in it is written by hand. Every sitting, every run of typing, every paste, every import, every answer from the AI lane, every step a chapter took and every state you saved stands in it in the order it happened, each row chained to the row before it. The panel reads the record; it never edits it.

The panel in the grid shows the recent events and Save checkpoint. Each row is the clock reading and what happened. Save checkpoint asks for a name and writes a state of the book under it.

The full view is the whole record. Open it from the panel header’s Full view, or from Panels in the top bar (screens/10-panels.md). The sittings are listed newest last; click one to open the events under it. An event names its kind, who wrote it and what it says of itself: the words a run of typing added, the characters a paste brought in, the checkpoint a save wrote, the state a restore went back to.

Two filters narrow the record. Kind lists every kind the record keeps, and Participant every author of the book. Both are asked of the engine, so what you see is what the record holds under them, not a shortened copy.

Checkpoints are listed above the tree, with what you can do to each. Restore puts the book back as that state held it: the prose, the titles, the order and the plans. It asks first, and it is itself recorded, so the history shows the restore as an event of its own. Rename changes the name and nothing else. Delete removes the copy and asks first; the event that recorded the save stays, since nothing takes a row out of the record.

Compare reads two points against each other. Turn Compare on and Select the two points: any checkpoint, or Now, which is the book as it stands. The table lists every chapter with its words on each side and what was added and removed between them, so a chapter that lost one paragraph and gained another of the same length shows both.

Verify record checks the chain. Pressing it asks the engine to read every row against the hash of the row before it and answers Verified or Broken; the chain head it checked is shown with the answer.

Export record writes the record to a file. Choose JSON, which carries where the characters came from, the chain head, whether it verifies and every event, or Text, which is one line per event under the head. The desktop build asks where to put the file; the browser build downloads it.

Open location takes you to where an event happened. An event recorded in the prose carries its place; choosing it opens the scene and marks the words. An event with no place in the prose says so.

Try: save a checkpoint, write a sentence, then compare the checkpoint with Now. The chapter you wrote in shows the words added, and every other chapter shows nothing added and nothing removed.
