Chapter
A chapter walks four steps, and the step you are on chooses what the window shows. The step track sits in the bar above the book: Plan, Write, Review, Done. A new chapter starts at Write with its first scene open in the editor; Plan is one step back. Click a step to move to it. Plan brings up the planning panels, Write the writing ones, Review the checks, proposals and comments, and Done replaces the editor with the chapter’s summary.
Plan. The Beats panel holds the chapter’s plan, one line per beat, with the word count under it. The plan is written when you leave the field. Its full view adds the chapters beside the editor, so you can write one plan against the others, and four actions: Clear, which asks first and empties the plan while the chapter keeps its text; Copy previous plan, which takes the plan of the chapter before this one; Generate beats, in Assisted and Full, which asks the AI lane for a plan and shows it as a result you insert or dismiss, so nothing is written until you say so; and Move to Write.
Write. The editor and the panels around it. The chapter’s numbers, plan, scenes and trash stand in the Chapters panel’s full view, which is also where you rename a chapter in place, set its target words, its objective and its tone, reorder it by the arrows or the position field, and move it to the trash. A trashed chapter is listed under Trash beside the table with Restore next to it; restoring puts it back with its scenes and its plan.
Review. The checks, the proposals and the comments of the chapter, and the way to Done.
Done. The chapter’s summary in place of the editor: its words, its scenes, its open checks, the time spent, and the shares typed and inserted by AI. Under them is the summary text, which saves when you leave the field, Regenerate summary in Assisted and Full, which shows the result before it replaces the text, Mark reviewed, Export chapter, and Reopen, which takes the chapter back to Write.
A step ahead is earned, past Plan. An empty plan is named in the Steps panel as advice, and Next step moves on without one. Leaving Write needs words in at least one scene, and the engine itself asks for every scene of the chapter to be done before the chapter reaches Review; where it refuses, its own sentence is shown, naming what is missing. The review gate is the one reading you may overrule: where checks are still open, the question offers Finish anyway, and the summary then carries the line that the chapter was finished with checks still open.
A step behind is never refused. Going back asks you to take the warning and then moves: the chapter keeps its text and its plan, and the flags the later steps set are cleared. A chapter that comes back off Done is marked as changed since it was finished, and the summary says so until you use Mark reviewed, which clears the mark and records that you have been over the chapter’s findings.
Try: make a new chapter. It opens at Write with its scene in the editor. Step back to Plan, write a beat, and move to Write again; with the plan left empty the move goes through just the same, and the Steps panel names the empty plan.
