Game menu
Escape opens the game menu, and Escape closes it. The cog of the top bar opens the same dialog. A press outside the card closes it. It is the only way from a book back to the shelf.
The items in a book. Resume, Save state, Load state, Book settings, Settings, Help, Close book, Delete book, Quit. Arrow keys walk the list and Enter chooses. On the shelf Escape opens no menu (D-177): Settings and Help are in the profile and account menu at the right of the bar, and the window closes with its own control.
Save state writes a named state of the book. The name is offered as the clock reading and is yours to change; once saved, the menu says so under its items with the name. Load state lists the states saved and restores the one you choose; the restore stands in the book’s history as an event of its own, so nothing is quietly replaced. Before it restores, it saves the book as it stands under Before restoring and the name of the state loaded, with a number after it where that name is taken, so loading that state undoes the restore.
Close book returns to the shelf. The book is closed on the engine and its lock released, so the file can be opened elsewhere. Where the editor holds an edit that is not yet kept, the menu asks before leaving.
Delete book deletes the file. It asks first and names the file, then
closes the book, deletes it and returns to the shelf without it. It
cannot be undone. To take the book off the shelf and keep the file, use
Forget on the shelf instead (screens/02-shelf.md).
Book settings, Settings and Help leave the menu for their screens.
Book settings is the book’s own (screens/05-book-settings.md); Settings
is the app’s; Help is this manual.
Try: press Escape in a book, choose Close book, and the shelf lists the book with the date you left it. Open it again and the lock is yours once more.
