Book settings

Book settings holds everything the book carries outside its prose. It is reached from the game menu and from a card’s overflow on the shelf. A rail on the left lists its pages, with a field that jumps to the page whose name you type.

Every field saves on blur or Enter, and says what it changed. There is no Save button. Leave a field, or press Enter in it, and the value is written; a line under the field states the field, what it was and what it now is. A field left as it was writes nothing.

Facts. Title, subtitle, genre, tags, summary and language. Tags are one line parted by commas. The language is picked from the app’s list. An empty field clears what was there: a fact write sends the whole set of facts, so what a write does not state is not kept.

Dialogue style. Under the facts, one free-text field says how people talk in this book: forms of address, manners of speech, what to avoid. It saves on its own when you leave the field. An AI draft carries it with the characters’ voice sections, under the heading the model is told to write their lines to. Leave it empty and drafts carry no dialogue style.

Mode and AI. The mode is Mechanical, Assisted or Full. Under it is a checkbox per AI task: lookup, sweep, suggest, draft, beats, summary and the agent. Mechanical allows none, Assisted allows the tasks you tick, and Full allows them all, which is why the boxes are only yours to change in Assisted. Beside them are the agent’s confirmation setting, whether the agent’s proposals are accepted without asking, and the lock timeout in minutes. Mode changes are listed under the controls, each with its time and the mode it went from and to.

Targets. Book target words, objective and daily target. Zero clears a target. The daily target is the one the Session panel counts against, in the count Settings, Editor, Words today counts chooses: the words you wrote by default, or all words added.

Collaborators. The people on the book and their roles, the invite row, and the book’s collaboration model, turn based or real time.

Sync. Whether a copy of the book is kept in the cloud. It needs an account: as a guest the switch stays visible and disabled with the reason beside it.

Export. The forms this book can be written out as, each with the options it honours. The export itself runs from the Export dialog. Above the forms, Save native whole-book copy writes the whole book as one .nomicon file, the one form that keeps the scene AI context settings a text or folder export leaves out.

Record. Where the book’s characters came from: typed, pasted, imported and machine, with the number of sittings. It is read from the record and nothing on the page changes it.

Publish. Whether the book is published, with Publish, Preview as reader, and Unpublish once it is published. Publishing needs an account, and the control says so when you have none.

Danger. Delete book closes the book, deletes the file and takes it off the shelf. It asks first and names the file. It cannot be undone; to take a book off the shelf and keep the file, use Forget on the shelf instead.

Try: change the book target, leave the field, and the line under it says what it was and what it is. Leave the screen and come back, and the field opens at the new number.
