Install
The installer is one file, Asterinomicon-0.2.0-preview.1-setup.exe. This release is a preview: About in Settings names it 0.2.0-preview.1. Run it,
choose whether it is for you alone (the default, no administrator
rights needed) or for everyone on the computer, choose where the
application goes, and it starts when Setup finishes with Run
Asterinomicon ticked, and from the Start menu after that. Nothing else needs installing: the engine that reads
and writes book files ships inside the application.
This preview is not signed. Windows SmartScreen may say it protected your PC the first time the installer runs. Choose More info, check that the file is the one you downloaded, then choose Run anyway. Without an internet connection it says instead that SmartScreen can’t be reached, names an unknown publisher and offers Run.
Books live in Documents\Asterinomicon. Each book is one .nomicon
file there, unless you saved it somewhere else. Uninstalling the
application removes the application and leaves that folder and every
book in it where they are.
Installing over an older version keeps your books. A book opened by
the newer version keeps its format until a newer feature writes to it.
Before that first write the application keeps a checked copy of the book
in a .nomicon-backups folder beside it, because an older version cannot
open the newer format.
Try: install, open the Shelf, make a book, then open
Documents\Asterinomicon: the book is there as one .nomicon file.
